Scale: 1:48 Class B, Modified Scratch Built Model
Designed by Thomas McMannus and built in Essex, Mass in 1921, the L.A. Dunton was a familiar sight on the Grand Banks for a long time. The ship was in nearly continuous service until the mid 1950s. In 1961, she was brought to Mystic Seaport where she has been ever since.
This model depicts the ship about 1926, a time when she was still strictly a sailing vessel. She is beginning to show signs of wear and tear. Rust is bleeding through the paint, some of the deck planking and cabin roofing is being replaced and foot traffic patterns have been worn into the deck and companionway ladder.
Including the mahogany case, the model occupies a space 55″ long, 22′ wide and 37″ tall.
This model is available for sale. Full details, specifications and price available upon request.
