In 1904 the Crosby Boat Yard of Osterville, Massachusetts waas commissioned by the Wianno Yacht Club, also of Osterville, to build 14 one design boats. They were to be built specifically for the weather conditions in Nantucket sound. The result was the sleek, twenty five foot gaff rigged day sailor you see here.
After the first boats were delivered, more orders followed. The Crosbys kept building. And they are still building today. New boats are made from fiberglass, not wood. But, they meet all the class specifications of their wooden hulled brethern. So glass boats can and do compete directly with wooden boats.
